Depends on the way you guide the conversation.
In India, we might need to expose our current package to negotiate, thats how the culture is.
But you might already know that this is completely illegal in some parts of america.
So the point is, either on the initial call with the team, if they are asking for your current package, you can simply deny it by either asking them the budget of the company and then you can either close in based on their reply or you can deny by saying something like, "I am sorry, I think its too early to disclose the same.." Or "I am uncomfortable disclosing my current salary, I believe your company is concentrating more on talent with compentative pay."
Usually I never disclosed my salary details to them and it is completely fine to do so. And if they are still pressuring for the current salary, its a good idea that you dont need to work at that company. Simple as that.
Happy hunting!
Thanks for your insight!
In India, they ask for 3 months of payslips before making an offer. Except BCG (I guess might be true for all fjrms that pay generously), I am yet to find an exception.
Ah that's a bummer. Thanks for the info!
I think all companies have started paying market rate without considering your previous salary. Even if company1 does not offer you market standard ctc, there is always company2 who is ready to pay more than what company 1 offers as per market standard.
That's good to know. Thank you!
It's in a way good also. If after getting to know your current CTC and ECTC in the first call itself they can't match it, it's better to stop the process at that point only. Will save everyone's time
