If you can use it for business expenses, maybe... but definitely not otherwise
$300 travel credit > $300 Marriott credit
Chase points > Marriott points (Chase can go 1:1 to Marriott plus has other transfer partners and 1.5 cent per point travel portal)
3x UR on dining/travel > 3x Bonvoy on dining/flights (Note that Chase includes all travel, not just flights booked directly)
Only category where the Bonvoy card wins on spend is 6x on Marriott spend (vs 3x on CSR). You’d need a lot of spend in this category to outweigh the other factors and only book Marriotts (as CSR gets 3x for any hotel, airbnb, etc.)
Bonvoy perks are slightly better but not significantly imo. Free night is nice but not worth the annual fee imo and we already get a ton of points from our weekly travels. Gold status is meaningless for us.
^ good points above but overall disagree, if you use the Marriott card on all hotel expenses the credit is essentially cash. This means the annual fee is actually $150 - if you don’t use any of the other perks you’re still getting a 50k free night and 3 more points per dollar (6x vs 3x, understanding that values are not 1 to 1).
I’d say having both makes sense if you’re traveling weekly and can use the Marriot card on hotels, CSR on everything else. Honestly if you don’t like the annual fee the SPG Amex was a good sweet spot with a very low fee but RIP
Ah ok so in other words it only ends up being 150 after the 300 cash back
^^ this is what I do. Use both. And the signup bonus just got raised to 100k if I’m not mistaken.
What sucks is that if you do the conversion that only equals 33.3k spg points. Before the merger, spg had the card bonus for 100k bonus pts
This is patently false. SPGs usual bonuses were 25k and occasionally hit 35k. There has never been a 100k Starpoints bonus.
