It's a meme at this point.
Yes we have venomous snakes.
No, they're not a real threat as long as you pay attention to your surroundings and train your kids to stay away from any snake they see til they're old enough to identify the venomous ones
Yes we have snakes. However they are generally in the standard places you would expect snakes. ( in the forest and the in plants on the edge of water). Don’t let your kids roam free in those areas in the summer, and teach them to avoid snakes if they see them. They will be fine.
Been here two years, and have seen one snake (small black snake). That being said, ppl post all the time about snake sightings. Often incorrectly identified as a copperhead.
We have lived here for 25 years and raised three kids. Copperheads are not a problem for 99.5% of the population here. There are certain places they prefer to live so you can select a house / apartment that will mean it isn’t an issue, and you also learn what they look like so can identify them in the very rare chance that you see one (I’ve never seen one, though my husband has). Definitely not a reason to say you wouldn’t take advantage of the great living environment here otherwise and it being a good place to raise a family. I promise.
They definitely are here. I’ve seen one adult and one baby copperhead in the last two years at my home. I’ve seen several more dead around my neighborhood and forest areas. Doing research on the bites, they weren’t nearly as deadly as I was afraid. It could be worse. I have a friend who lives in Colorado who has rattlesnakes or something in her backyard
