In my experience, men are "surprised" by women who don't follow a typical mold/standard. I (female) drink IPAs, whiskey sodas, and vodka ditches at my husbands business dinners. The gentlemen usually drink light beers or single malts.

Alright I’ll give the honest answer. Yeah if it’s a nice business dinner, jack & coke is a little low brow and kind of manly. You do you, but if you’re getting surprised looks that’s why.
Now, would I care or change my drink order? Probably not! But this is just info, use it however you want

People usually give me those same looks when I suggest a round of tequila shots but it hasn’t stopped me ever. Here for more questionable career advice if you need it.
AS1, i’m only a year short on you and i’d actually prefer a room temperature tequila shot….

It will be unpopular answer but i will say it. Jack and coke is a college drink and you will get the looks if you order it at nice work dinner, doesn’t matter if you are a M or F. Its like Michael Scott asking for Splenda after taking a sip of expensive scotch. Now here is the unpopular portion, you know what I am not gonna say it. I know its true based on personal experience and I validated it with few friends but won’t say it here.
Yeah jack and coke is what my friends and I drank in high school when it’s all we could get our hands on
Why not order a cocktail that doesn’t scream college? Learn to enjoy an Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Negroni, or Martini and the raised eyebrows will be atta girls instead of suspicion.

I drink old fashions and I’m a woman. Drink what you like, not what others enjoy. If you truly like jack and coke, stick with it. If you’re curious about new drinks, find a cocktail bar and chat up the bartender for recommendations. Why not try something new?

You might be pleasantly surprised! You can even tell them you like whiskey and they will put something together for you.
I get the feeling that you’re really young. Jack & Coke is not an adult drink. Jack Daniels with just a little water or ice - and a really special version - are reasonable. Wine is reasonable. Margaritas… meh. Of course, ultimately, it doesn’t matter what others think.
Here are a few safe drinks that don’t get looks: negroni, old fashioned, dark & stormy (and of course gin and tonic). Maybe try those see if you like them
I’m a female whiskey drinker and it often surprises people no matter if I’m ordering it neat or with a mixer. Order what you like!
Try an Old Fashioned, a 7 and 7, or an Irish Mule. These are all whiskey drinks with soda or simple syrup, and they sound much more mature than a Jack & Coke.

Please just order what you want to drink. Life is way too short to worry about what other people think about something as inconsequential as this. Yes, people may have ridiculous prejudices but that's on them. As long as you don't get pi$$ed at work events or nice dinners, there's no problem.
I like a lady who isn’t afraid to use more Jack than Coke. But it definitely needs a lime.

Honestly I think it's more because you're female.
Most women don't order whiskey. It's not seen as a girl drink
It's not a white collar vs college thing. You can order a fancy scotch next time and they'd prob give the same reaction
And if you don't like the scotch ask for a coke on the side and just mix it together - which im sure woild provoke another reaction lol
i personally respect those who go away from the fashionable and go for what you really enjoy. Power to you. I typically just get an IPA as a little flip to the Negroni posers. Plus I really enjoy those. It I want a whiskey Ill drink one at home from. But I have little respect to those that want to show their sophistication via fashionable high status drinks.
Pick a more sophisticated drink when at a nice business dinner. Better Scotch, whiskey, etc.
