It’s going to depend heavily on your doctor, but they should be able to offer you guidance on why a vaginal delivery is generally recommended. You might also look into birthing classes offered by your hospital to get better informed about the process.
Just don’t think about the delivery part. Epidural helps and once you have your bundle of joy in your arms you’ll forget about all the pain you went through. Just think of the millions of women that have gone through births and if they can do it, you can do it too. You are stronger than you think 💪
C-section too is not the easy way out. Even though I did not have one, I think it’s more difficult to recover from than a natural delivery. And it comes with its own issues. You can discuss everything with your doctor but keep your mind open and don’t be scared. You got it momma! :)
There’s a few other threads on here that speak to this….will just add that in my experience a vaginal delivery (with an epidural) is WAY more enjoyable and easier than a c-section. Have had both experiences. And I too was terrified of a vaginal delivery.
Of course everyone’s experience will vary and there are some good reasons to have an elective c-section (eg trauma etc). But if it’s just general nervousness (which is totally normal!) I would just say don’t assume that a c-section will be more enjoyable or easier than vaginal, particularly if you want an epidural. My vaginal birth was very easy and smooth, no pain at all, and an unbelievably fast recovery. My c-section for a #2 (breach baby) was the opposite.
I don’t think so but there are several use cases for c-section so you might end up having one anyway. Also have you researched all your options around vaginal delivery. Educating myself always helps to deter fear of the unknown. C-sections are pretty scary too.
Try learning more about labor and delivery options first. The best thing for fear is more knowledge. You’re just at the beginning of this journey, give yourself more research
Look into water birth options… doulas… Labor and delivery rarely look like what you see on TV or in the movies!
Like others have said, C-section isn't easier...the recovery from a C section is also rough. I was terrified of giving birth too but then took a labour relaxation course that put my mind at ease. Ended up having a natural birth (arrived at the hospital too late for an epidural) and I wouldn't have had it any other
Pro
I can’t choose—my hospital won’t do elective c-sections. (Large teaching hospital in a major coastal city.)
If your provider will do an elective c-section, make sure you understand your insurance coverage for an elective procedure.
However you bring baby into the world is the right way!

You can choose but your doctor is unlikely to recommend it or even necessarily bring up the option unless there is a problem or you raise it yourself

Indeed. What if you knew that maternal death rates are higher after C-sections than vaginal delivery?

I promise you, c sections are terrible and you really don't want one if you can help it.
I had an emergency c section and wouldn’t recommend it. Do the epidural and you’ll be fine!
