Is there an opportunity for the public to engage with the national guard on where we want them focused to solve our crime problem? I think traffic crime should be top priority. Speeding, rolling stop signs, etc. That's where this city is utterly lawless.

Your first mistake is assuming they are being deployed to solve crime problems.

@Director - You are aware that the national guard is funded with taxpayer money right? It also racks up a lot of expenses quickly when it deploys people to active duty. So eventually we are going to pay for it with more taxes and/or inflated currency. Your last sentence is fair though.

I think it’s the shootings and muggings.

So they should work on the gun smuggling from red States ?

The city simply doesn’t care about traffic violations, animal welfare, petty theft, etc. Seems like even mugging and assault are on the lower end of focus, it’s really the most heinous crimes that are of focus and how many of those do you see the same line at the end of media articles, “No arrests have been made.”

If you look at closure rates, CPD has some of the lowest of any major metro. Until more resources are put behind them (which won’t happen for a variety of reasons), don’t really see this changing. The guard isn’t there to help directly with any of this.

like

It’s less about the money and more about what they are and aren’t allowed to do.

Maybe start by learning what federalizing the national guard limits them to and entails?

like

Guess that's why they're picking trash in DC rather than actually arresting criminals

Just send them into south side and lay waste to the gangs.

Maybe the gang targeting the elderly:

Found a random engagement ring.

Hi all, so I found a platinum ring (which I assumed it's an engagement ring as it has dates and initials engraved on top.) And a Divvy tag (I have no idea what it was until I googled it. Apparently it's a bike sharing service in Chicago) in a briefcase I ordered online. I was thinking of returning the item back to the store but that wouldn't help the person who lost the ring. Attached is a picture of them.

What should I do now?
