Can anyone share their experience with an ESOP?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

You can always go back and give a counteroffer. Say you did some more market research and you've reevaluated your perspective on the salary. Or you think that a higher number would fit the scope of the job.
Coach
Okay that’s a good idea. I always assumed it would be dismissed off hand.
Depends on when it's given. Early on in the process, probably. People have short memories, and you can always say that based on what you learned during subsequent interviews, you believe you're justified asking for more. If you gave that number during one of the last or final rounds, probably not since it's going to be fresh in their minds.
Okay cool I’ll keep this in mind thank you!
Depends on what cards you’re holding. Are you desperate for the position and would be devastated if you lost it or do you have several interested employers and/or would be fine staying at your current job until you get what you want?
You’ve at least showed one of your cards on a lower amount that you’d be interested in.
I guess sometimes I forget they might want to hire me as much as I want to be hired, good leverage to have!
It’s really hard to. Depends on where you are in the process and how you initially framed it. But as a general rule I try to give a range that is what I actually would accept in the initial convo
Yeah I think a range is the most appropriate, I think sometimes there’s a worry of shooting too low because you really want the job.
