Isn’t it wild how much of adult life is just figuring things out as you go and hoping no one notices you’re slightly confused the whole time?
When did you start realizing no one really has it all together?

I think it was when I had kids and realized my parents were the same age when they had me. I always thought they were infallible and on top of everything, but now I know they were just doing their best and taking everything day by day. No amount of non-parenting life experience can really prepare you for the reality of juggling raising kids, work, and taking care of pets and a house.

So true! I don't know what I'm doing out here 😂

When I started managing people and realized everyone was winging at least one part of their job, that’s when it hit me. We’re all just figuring it out in real time.

So true! Most of us are just learning as we go!

When I was younger I naturally assumed that people like my parents or teachers knew what they were doing and there was all a big plan. I finally did realize everybody was just out there improvising. And somehow it all worked out. I admit I get anxious at times when I face some situation and have to figure it out, but I take some odd solace in knowing that it's perfectly normal to be making it up as you go along.

It is quite funny when you think about it really. Most of us have no idea what we are doing and like you said it just works out!

Next week I’m having my first lateral interview as a junior associate. I’m very nervous because the group with whom I’m interviewing works with life science/tech clients and the attorneys have strong science/tech backgrounds; and I do not. However, I am very, very interested in transitioning to this practice. And I reaaally want this job because it’s at my dream firm. How would you recommend preparing for the lateral interview?

Potential new job is flying me across the country….for a one hour interview. Red flag? Or just a formality since they want me to relocate so I can see what it’s about?

Help!! My bestfriend is doing two months abroad and was trying to fly into turkey when they told her she couldn't because her passport expired within three months.

She went to the US Embassay in Athens knowing she had a month left of traveling, and gave her an emergency passport and punched holes in her exsisting one. Now no country will let her in with her emergency passport.

Can her mom get her a passport in the US and ship it to her? Is there anyway around this?

Thank you!!

Can you name a firm (preferably NY office) that lets its associates work from a different country with no issues? The mid-size firm I’m currently at has been very flexible during covid but I’m looking to change firm (biglaw). Since my family is abroad I find it extremely valuable to be able to do this (I did this even before covid for a couple of weeks, twice a year). I’ve heard firms like Latham and Paul Weiss don’t allow it for tax reasons.

Hi. Thanks for the add!

I went from agency to in house PR 1.5 years ago (I’m at a prof services firm in nyc). There are no boundaries for communication; everyone is expected to answer emails immediately at all hours and senior people respond in minutes between about 7am-11pm, at minimum. Is this normal in the corporate, non agency world? Not sure if this is just due to the pandemic and WFH, but I was under the impression that in house life would be more chill.

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.
