Honestly for me the decrease in travel isn’t a good enough reason to downgrade. I still get plenty of points from dining, entertainment, etc. I don’t see myself changing from CSR anytime soon, so right there with you OP
With less travel, can be harder to justify the higher annual fee especially after the changes. $95 CSP annual fee pays off my DoorDash membership so I’m 😎
The thing with the CSR that’s tough for me to let go is that I have almost 200k points and downgrading will drop their guaranteed value from $3000 to $2500 since CSP points are only worth 1.25 cents instead of 1.5.
I’m not redeeming exclusively for travel booked through the UR portal, but for a lot of domestic flights you come out ahead vs transferring and redeeming points directly (plus spending through the portal counts as paying cash for airline status).
Following!
Doing the same, for the 100k sign up bonus. CSR isn't worth that much these days.
This. Also the only earning benefit of csr over csp is the travel category (3 vs 2) and lyft (that will expire in 03/22 and lyft is very hard to get where I am at). I still have the two freedom cards so the impact on earning is minimal while 100k sign up bonus was too good to pass up
More bang for my buck. I’m almost exclusively Amex, so I downgraded my CSR to CSP, mostly for when Amex is not accepted.
The CSR is frankly overvalued/overrated. Not sure why it’s so popular, unless maybe the sign up bonus.
I downgraded to grab the 100k bonus. Since they’ve upped the CSPs restaurant earning to 3x and since I’m not traveling for the foreseeable future, I’m not really missing out on any earnings.
If I start traveling again, I’ll look at upgrading as Priority Pass had some benefit for me.
On the redemption side, the best options were always for travel partners, either Hyatt or one of the airlines. It’s pretty rare that I would book anything through their portal - maybe an odd boutique hotel that my company doesn’t get discounts at. I’m not really going as many places due to COVID anyway, so it’s kind of moot for the moment anyway.
No travel plus 100k bonus
How do you downgrade to get the bonus?
You can have more than one freedom card of each flavor.
You can think about if it makes sense to cancel a card as well. Just do the math on it to see if it will increase the average age of your account or not.
What do these acronyms mean 😬😑
Happy to help- welcome!
