It blows my mind how often people act like editing is just a stepping stone. I’ve been cutting for over a decade. I love the craft, I’m good at it, yet every few months someone asks when I’ll “move up” to directing or producing, like being a career editor means I settled. Not everyone wants to chase the next rung on the ladder; some of us actually enjoy mastering one. Why do we treat specialization like failure in this industry?
