It’s hard sometimes being the only POC in the meeting or overall group. There are so many microagressions that are too small to say anything about. it’s an industry thing for sure. Tips on dealing?

Recalling my first onboarding meeting in-house with the c - suite. Thinking back now recalling that they would often mention if someone they are referring to is a woman. For example, "Oh we have these two women doing x, y, and z and they do it well, a well-oiled machine." etc. I was the only woman in the room. They did not mention when someone performing a particular role was a man but they did point out when it's a woman, happened about four times. Odd, no? What would you make of this?

My agency is opening up applications for a DE&I Committee leader for the first time. This person will be responsible for overhauling how the agency approaches diversity, including employee training, internships, new business model and client communications. Ok. I know that social media has made a lot of AAVE slang popular. I get that. What I find cringe is the obsession with using it 24/7 and the assumption that adding "lit" or "that's cap" or "slay" to things will make them do numbers. Someone in a meeting this morning suggested we use bffr and said it means "best friend for real." Like at least research the term before you try to use it.

Any minority recruiters/HR who can truthfully confirm if checking off an ethnicity when submitting a job application matters or is it better off to mark "Prefer not to say" for a better chance of getting follow-ups?
