I’ve applied to over 60 jobs over the last month and gotten a total of 4 interviews. I’ve got solid experience, strong recommendations, and a resume that’s been reviewed half a dozen times. Still nothing. I’m starting to spiral a little, wondering if the market really is this bad or if I’m just doing something wrong and can’t see it. At what point do you stop blaming the system and start wondering if it’s you?

You are defiantly not alone. I lost my job and this is the hardest it has been to find something solid. The job market wants a laundry list of responsibilities with pay not matching the economy. Also, AI is taking a lot jobs as well sad to say. :( I wish you and myself luck!

I got laid off in March of last year from finance, specifically lending, and found a job with the state. Thinking about a future in private finance and not wanting to go the sales route (in my instance), in my opinion does not look promising with future advancements in AI, unless you are stellar. The ROI will not be there for the employer. The job market is really bad, the best job is one you will have 20+ years from now. My take when choosing which employer to work for. I wish you well in your search brother

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself right now. It's a horrible market, definitely the worst market since 2008 (and maybe even worse than that one). But, with that knowledge, there are things you can do to improve your own applications. Focus on referrals.

Referrals! I was looking to transition from branch management to financial advisory during COVID
Yeah great timing lol but the way I got my foot I. The door was asking co workers to introduce me to current FAs and find out how they got there
It took about 6 months of conversations with no openings and then finally everyone was calling all at once asking me to apply
Definitely focus on meeting with the intent to learn and keep in contact with each intro
It was definitely more productive for me than the countless applications I was submitting online

Sorry to hear that. It only takes one Yes!

Keep your head up! Echoing the sentiments above, this job market is super tough!

Tbh I have found this myself applying for jobs, and it’s frustrating that people don’t give any feedback on applications etc.
personally I know quite a few places are really picky with the people they hire. But don’t take it personally, you’ll find the right place

Anyone else struggle to understand offshore resources sometimes?

I work with a team in India and communication has been hard. I’m fluent in Hindi and sometimes switch to Hindi so it’s easier but when non-Indians are in the meeting I obviously have to stick to English.

Indian accents and bad grammar make it hard for me to understand wtf they’re saying 😭

I have a VC/GE interview coming up (phone screen) and personally don’t know much about the space , it’s just an area that has always seemed interesting.

Does anyone have Recommendations on how to get up to speed/good questions to ask during the phone screen?

I would assume the first call will be pretty standard to any other company, but just want to be prepared.

Motions
I work in a midsize firm and we have the basic subscription to westlaw, which doesn’t include the ability to see filed briefs, motions, etc without incurring additional costs. I’m wondering if there is a service in the NJ/PA area that gives you access to previously filed motions and briefs? So if I’m drafting a summary judgment I could search the service and find a similar one. If this doesn’t exist.. I think I found the next million dollar idea lol

I’m hosting family from America in my home in Europe this week. Being away for just a couple of years has made me really aware of American tendencies. They’re fat and literally are only always thinking of their next meal. We can eat, and they want to talk about dinner. They always complain about their knees and feet even though they’re also only in their mid thirties. I’ve decided to no longer host friends/family from America because it’s always like this 🤦🏼‍♂️ 🫃🏼

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Current TC 103K [88/15], offer 125k base [+discretionary bonus].
