I've been an L&D nurse for 10 years and need a change from direct patient care, but I feel so guilty about leaving. If you made a change like this, was it easy to redefine your identity as a nurse? How do you explain what you do now?

Depends on how much of a change you’d be making. Shouldn’t feel guilty at all! You gave 10 years to it, and it’s ok to make a change that you need. Starting anything new or different takes some time.

Number one do not feel guilty. We all need to do what’s best for ourselves. There’s no need for explanation at all. You have tons of experience that you bring to the table to whatever position you choose to go for best of luck.

When I moved into education, it took me a few months to stop missing being on the hospital floor. But seeing how much I was helping new nurses, I quickly got that feeling of purpose back. My job title is different now, but I'm still doing the work I love.
