if anyone is willing to sever a friendship over opposing views they weren’t your true friend in the first place. real adults can have conversations about topics they disagree on and respectfully agree to disagree. as a medical professional they should understand that you work in a setting where you are exposed to the ramifications of this legislation on a likely daily basis and be understanding of that. bottom line, find some new friends bc it sounds like they weren’t good to you to begin with.
M1 good point
You have to be able to have political/tough conversations with your friends. If you can't or it causes issues, someone isn't mature enough or is possibly considered an extremist.
I grew up in San Antonio and at least 80% of my friends are Hispanic. That being said, I'm for the border wall, stricter immigration, and the second amendment. Most of my friends are completely against those 3 things. We talk about it all the time. Sometimes the discussions can be a little heated, but we still sip tequila with each other all the time and I'm a huge part of their family. Our conversations have been very insightful for each other and I truly love them.
Stay true to your beliefs (but open to change) and feel free to talk openly about it. And if someone stops talking to you about it, they really didn't care about you or are really immature.
Yup, my other friends and I have open conversation but this set of folks were pretty adamant about what they believed.
Why are you losing friends? Are you cutting them off for being pro-life (or vice versa) or were there heated arguments about it that led to friendship loss?
They're cutting me off after having several heated conversations
You're probably being too rigid, but you're not alone. Studies show liberals are more likely to unfriend people over political views and Republicans have more politically diverse friends.
Fake news
Most of my friends are Liberals and I’m a Republican. I just avoid talking about politics in general.
Right, I'm not even big on politics and we've been friends for year but the ruling really brought some conversations to light.
