I’ve been having a rough few days and I feel guilty saying that, because in some people’s eyes, I’m privileged.
I have a stable job at a well-known firm, but I’m frustrated I didn’t get promoted this cycle and I’m unsure what else I can do.
I also chose to pursue a part-time Master’s at a prestigious university, and now I’m stressing myself out because I want to graduate with a 1:1.
Sometimes I feel like my brain doesn't allow me to enjoy life, always chasing more, afraid of my ow "mediocrity"🥲

It's hard to sit back and reflect and be happy where you are. But, you are part of the way there!

I suggest making a list of the positive things in your life and hanging it on the fridge. Sometimes, seeing it in writing helps see things more clearly.

Keep pursuing that MA, but recognize that the degree won't miraculously change your life. There will always be peaks and valleys. That is what makes life enjoyable.

Thank you, I will.
Regarding the MA, I know it won't change it but my relatives have been all A students and I made it my dream to graduate with 1:1, anything lower feels like failure

Remember that your career will be long and getting promoted a year later than planned won’t matter in the long run.

Does anyone experience the same? I just focus on the top 10% of people and feel like 💩 in comparison, like my life is a failed mess and none of the things I have achieved already does matter, it is exhausting. I acknowledge that I'm in a bubble of high achievers, privileged people, which distorts my perspective on the average person's life, but I also have this inner voice that leads me to never be satisfied and do whatever it takes to avoid complacency and mediocrity. Who's right?

Rough few days? Try few months for some of us

I’m a new associate working for a well-known defense attorney in my state. On one hand, I’m thankful for the opportunity to learn from one of the best, but he also excoriates and belittles me for my mistakes. Any advice on how much it tolerable? I am here to learn and advance my career but he can be pretty nasty. (My mistakes are no worse than you’d expect a 1st year associate to make, in case you’re all wondering if I’m a major screw-up who deserves it) I leave work feeling a foot tall.

Hiya!

I'm looking at applying to MBB (Preferably BCG) for a summer internship this summer. I'm a first-gen Oxbridge student, and while I have little experience in consulting along the lines of MBB, I did work in the city last summer as an sustainability consultant.

I'm curious how important it is to have a referral etc and what you'd recommend for applications opening in jan. Any advice is super appreciated I don't have any connections to the industry but it's something im interested in.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
