I’ve been out nine years, with 7 of those irrelevant to my current practice, and a lot of it being doc review. Sometimes I feel like I am expected to perform at the level of a nine or 10 year attorney. However, my inexperience shows sometimes because in a sense I have the same level of ability as a second or third year associate. How do I deal with this? Tips?

I was where you are once. I graduated in 2008. No jobs but doc review. I did not get my first permanent law license required job until 2013. I put my head down and learned the law. I also relied on practical guidance resources (rutter guides). Also, it really helps to have people you can go to who can give you a very precise answer in 5 minutes instead of you chasing your tail for 3 hours and not being sure of your conclusion. Find mentors. Find people who are willing to teach you. Go to MCLEs taught by the big players in your practice area.

I eventually became an income partner at a mid size firm before moving to one of the Big 4 L & E firms.

Remember, you can do it. You just have to push yourself to grow.

Brush up on your Legislative skills. Start to research new STATE, CITY AND FEDERAL laws. This knowledge can sharpen you up and advance your current level. I hope this helps.

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve been practicing 10+ years and would have no idea what to do for doc review.

I clicked “next doc” for 4 years. Did substantive review for 1 year lol.

Anyone hiring those who have been out of work for a year? I took time off to tend to personal matters, but I am now looking to get back into the workforce again. My previous experience includes time at B4 audit up to senior level and then transitioned to manager in industry. Senior/manager roles are preferred.

I don’t mind audit. However, I’d prefer it not to be at a B4, as I am looking for some semblance of a work life balance.

DM me if you have something above, thanks.

I was hoping to join either on of them but now I got couple of offers from startups, where they're offering me 24LPA and 25 LPA. I'm getting confused now, any suggestions would be very much helpful. TIA.

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly. It’s destroying my ability to get anything done during the day. It’s a complete performance and it drives me nuts.
