Any way you could change grade level for a change
Maybe a change of pace and teach something else. I get to teach three different subjects and it's nice
Why would you start at the bottom, most schools in my area give credit for years of experience. Some full, some partial.
Or just get outside of the box and comfort zone in which you find yourself. Reinvent yourself as a teacher. If lit, find a different book to teach. If writing based, find new essay prompts. Or challenge them to a new type of writing - plays, whodunnit, blogs, rap lyrics around a theme (don’t tell them it’s poetry). Bonus points for performing any of these in class. Mix things up. Focus on changing the class you hate teaching the most. You will get a fresh start in a different way. It’s time to leave when you can’t stir the embers back into a flame and you have something else to move on to.
If you do decide to leave, negotiate your pay before signing your contract. I’ve seen ppl gain steps just by bringing up past teaching experience and pushing hard for a step increase. Good luck!
12 years is good experience. You should try now. The years will go by fast and with your degrees.
I somehow doubt now is a good time to leave. But you have a lot of great experience. I can’t imagine you’ll be starting at the bottom of anything unless you change careers entirely.
