they only care about how it looks to everybody there before you. they have a concept start time that you should be there for. they don't care if getting in earlier hurts your health or productivity. they def don't care how long you have to stay to finish. you come in at set time convenient for them and work until you have to long after they have gone home to their families and life. that is the work life here
Unfortunately 100% accurate
Hmm - good communication means setting expectations early so that everyone can achieve it. Then expressing concerns if you are unable to achieve said expectation.
That being said, I let my team set the hours. Just need 12-14 daily during busy times... work whenever you want! Rule 1: don’t miss client meeting (and don’t look like a dumpster fire either), rule 2: get stuff done. Beyond that, IDGAF.
If you can’t follow the rules, then I have to rain some hell down on you. But when I do, I’d never yell. If anything, speak very very softly and use the word “disappointed” - makes it much more intimidating ;)
I mean 9AM-10PM is a pretty normal Mon-Thurs in February. Can stretch to midnight and start at 10AM the next day. Do other people not work these hours?
Come in at 8 leave at 5 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Lol I hope I never work with your supervisor. I roll in at 9:30-10 everyday as long as I don’t have meetings
@PwC5 why not make it a right as a trade off for working 80 hours/week and take away said right if it’s abused. As long as I’m getting my work done and not disrupting the workflow of the team what difference does it make?
The only response I’ve gotten to that is “well that’s the way it’s always been”🙄
That’s not professional. But was there any meeting/status update for which you were asked to come earlier than 9?
I would talk to through him/her. There might be 1000s of reason for one to be frustrated Monday morning but that in any way doesn’t give anyone right to yell at their juniors. I would definitely try to talk through, most of times it appears like one is yelling at you but it might end it’s just the heavy tones of some people who when talk appear like they yell. I have one partner who’s such.
When do they want you to come in lol
8AM
Tell them the amount of sleep you get isn’t negotiable.
Did they actually “yell” at you or are you using the word colloquially to mean “reprimanded”? I’m having trouble picturing someone raising their voice in this context.
Yep. I’ve been accused of yelling at a manager. They said it in their exit interview. I don’t yell. But, yes, I hold people accountable and expect them to deliver what and when they say they will.
Yelled at? Who yelled at you? Talk to that person one on one quickly later today or tomorrow to explain that that’s not appropriate and not an effective way to change your behavior and see if they apologize. I’d also raise it with someone else in the chain of command. We are all adults, yelling at someone is never ok and that person needs to be made aware of that as the progress.
So much agree
Did they castigate you or yell?
