I’ve been the only woman on my deal team for months now. No one’s overtly hostile, but the micro stuff adds up like getting interrupted in meetings, double-checked on things I’ve already confirmed, or having my points repeated by a guy and suddenly they “land.” I’m good at what I do, but it’s exhausting having to prove it over and over. I’m not looking for sympathy, I just want to know: does it ever get better? Or do you just get better at swallowing it?

How do you wind down after a rough day?

Does anyone work in a very volume based area of law (i.e. insurance defense, workers comp) but have partners who are perfectionists to an absurd degree? How do you manage to get your billing in when everything always has to be revised?

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? I've never worked at another firm.

Thoughts on sending out assignments over the weekend? I work a lot on weekends, but I don’t expect associates too. But, because I work on weekends, I often will send out assignments by email with a clear indication in subject line and body that it does not need to be completed or worked on over the weekend. A friend recently mentioned this isn’t the best since seeing the assignment may create unnecessary stress and anxiety. So, what say you? Am I terrible partner?
