McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.
So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Look at how many rungs in the ladder you need to climb in order to get to CIO. Figure out how many years for each rung. Factor in the technical domain expertise you’ll need to learn for a CIO role. It usually requires 15-20 yoe. You can shave a few years by skipping levels and jumping companies like I did.
This is how I did it:
SWE - 1 year
Sr SWE / Team Lead - 2 years (I managed a team of 12)
SWE Manager (skipped)
Sr SWE Manager (skipped)
Director - 3 years (Fortune 20)
Sr Director (skipped)
VP - current (Fortune 15)
I actually did not know know what bowl I was in when I asked the question ma’am. I saw the post in my feed and asked a question. I did not assume she was a woman. It’s a fair question to ask with no other prior context given for jumping so many levels. If you think a lot of people don’t get to where they are because of who they know, that’s naïve.
