I’ve had poor experiences as an associate and now as a partner I feel like I may be too soft on associates for mistakes (e.g. mistakes I would have made as a junior but not as an 8th year). It’s not just one mistake and seems like I may need to remind them to take ownership of a full matter. Any advice on how to best handle that for a senior associate who may have more experience than me in an area but should not be making mistakes like that or should not be promoted to take ownership?

A colleague i work with just went through a third miscarriage, I would like to get her a gift. Something that shows I care. Any advice on what would be most helpful? I was thinking a good book. Any other place ideas / record? Would really appreciate.

Anyone experience heartburn after retrieval? This is my third and haven’t had acidity before. Doctor warned about pain, nausea etc but no guidance around heart burn which gets real bad when I sleep.

Landed a contract role at Deloitte via MBO Partners for an audit senior role. MBO is making me a W-2 employee for MBO, but I am getting paid $125/hour plus overtime. Am I missing something here or am I about to be making $5K/week (or more with OT)? Anyone have any experience with MBO or doing contract work like this? I am concerned with fulfilling billable hours requirement. I’m required to hit 2100 hours yearly and I’m at ~1,500 hours and I think I’ll hit 150-180hours this month. What will happen if I don’t hit my targeted amount by the end of my year.

Second year associate here who recently switched from litigation to corporate law. I am absolutely swamped while simultaneously having no idea what I’m doing ever and I’m feeling so burnt out. Advice on managing up / enduring toxic deal teams? I’m at the point where my stomach drops any time I see something come in from certain people. Everything is behind, client is unhappy, I’m exhausted and simultaneously being micromanaged without guidance on big-picture/substantive issues. I’m struggling a bit. If I knew how to market well, I certainly wouldn’t be in this position.
