I’ve now been out of work (aside from contract work the last few months) since August. I’ve had so many interviews made it to the end in at least 5 not to lose out to another candidate. It feels hopeless. I have a family to support, unemployment ran out, I’m burning through savings. I know there are a lot of people in the same boat. Just needed to vent.

I'm sorry. I'm feeling all of this right now. I hate how stressed and unhappy all of this makes me. I'm still showing up for my kids and doing my best not to let it show because I don't want them worrying too, but it's so hard to keep the mask up when things feel this hopeless.

Kids are very perceptive and they lean on their parents to feel safety in the world

I’m sorry. It is very tough out there right now. I really hope things improve.

Wishing you the best and hope something comes through soon. Have you tried any staffing agencies? Can produce something while you are still looking for a better fit. Definitely difficult out there, and you are not alone!

I just wanted to send you good energy and I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m sure we who find our jobs annoying at times take it for granted

Hi all- My SO is currently at a Big4 & was initially preparing for S&O roles at GCP but given the high number of ex MBB consultants hired, they believe its just more competition to get the offer & to eventually get promoted over time.

Instead, they have decided to pursue program manager or cloud consultant roles, which they feel might have a lower barrier to entry from an assessment standpoint. Not sure if the bowl agrees but would like to get your thoughts, thanks!

I'm a SWE from Italy. Love my country but salary and taxes here are outrageous. Got 2yrs experience in fullstack and data science, 2masters, a peer reviewed paper and outperform all my peers for 24k€ a year.
I'm thinkin about landing a remote SWE job (leetcoding and building a portfolio this summer).
Have you got some advice? Is it possible to work for US remotely without visa? What other countries pay well? Is it possible to land a 100k$+ with this kind of experience and working from Italy?

I am trying to figure out how to switch to SWE. I have a masters in civil engineering and have a good background in higher level math. It looks like the better coding boot camps are quite expensive. The alternative is another masters in CS which is the same cost as many boot camps. Any recommendations on picking between a coding boot camp and getting another masters degree in CS? I’m looking to get into the best position possible after getting an education in CS (get a job quick and good pay).

Hello!
I’m a student majoring in Software Engineering. I’m starting my third year in a few months and have an internship where I’m learning more about working with an actual team on real-world projects. However, I feel like I need to do more to stand out and have a stronger software background. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for what I should do on my own time to strengthen my skills?

Hi all - just joining and looking for some guidance! I am currently in an IT internship position (making pretty solid money considering) and following this summer I will stay on part time during my senior year (discussing a full-time job offer after already). I’m getting my computer science degree, so I would like to do something more technical in the workplace when I graduate. How do I advocate myself for that to my manager without sounding unappreciative of the position I’m in?

What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.

I just got a job offer for an Entry Level Software Engineer at Boeing in Saint Louis. The salary is $82,000 with an $8,000 sign on bonus. I was hoping for an offer closer to 90k base and I don’t care too much for a sign on bonus. However, this is a lot more than what I’m making now, and would be my first SWE job. Should I counter? If so, how would I go about doing that? Thanks!

Is it normal for Amazon recruiters to reach out to you regarding SWE positions? I’ve received a couple messages on LinkedIn about some openings, but considering the fact that I’m still a junior developer I’m not sure if they’re legit or scams.
