I’ve recently been hired as a company’s first dedicated L&E attorney reporting directly to the GC. Im experienced but I’ve never formally set up a function. Anybody done this and want to share any tips- perhaps the less obvious things I might not be thinking of? Non-exhaustive list of Top of mind issues are:
1. Policy review
2. Benefits audit/ become secretary to applicant committees
3. Executive contracting
4. Develop ER processes
5. Develop ways of working with HR
6. DEI Audi

Probably a process about how stakeholders are directing asks. I assume if a department had an L&E question they would direct to corporate counsel or GC directly or maybe even outside counsel. You can look at what is being delegated to OC and see if anything can be handled in-house.

Yea, it’s been handled by each business unit’s attorney. The goal is to centralize and keep nearly everything in house.

I have recently received an offer from HSBC for Data Engineer profile. The designation offered is Senior Analyst- Information Management. They said that it is a techno functional role. Does anyone have an idea about what techno functional role actually is in HSBC? Is it more like a Business Analyst? My prior experience is completely in Technical side. Will this role be suitable for me?

Any suggestion is highly appreciated. Thank you.

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

Recently received an offer from Ogletree to do only class action work. It'll be a big change for me, I'll be starting as a fourth year. Double my current salary, etc.

What will this be like? It's more of a niche, but lucrative, part of their practice, right? Will I really get good WLB like they claim? I have a nice 40 hour a week job right now, no billables.

I’m working at an insurance defense firm, trying to target my practice to L&E. I’m overworked and underpaid, but gaining valuable experience I hope to pivot toward an eventual in-house counsel position. I recently was offered an opportunity to lateral to a national firm for a significant pay increase (150% salary increase, much better benefits, hybrid WFH options). Problem-I would be shifting gears to Toxic Tort. I’m torn between my passion and the money. I’m a second year associate. WWYD?

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?
