Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

I feel like I'm in that spot right now. I had intended to find a better job last year, and the awful job market did not cooperate. So I thought I'd find a better job this year, and now I've got a job market that's worse, plus a war, and maybe a global economic meltdown. Brilliant. I'm grateful now to have the job I've got, and I hope I find a better job next year.
It’s tough when plans don’t work out. The job market is really frustrating right now. It’s good to hear you’re grateful for what you have, though.
job hopping definitely leads to more compensation. If you are good at negotiating, then a few hops go a long way since you started job hopping so do yourself a favor and hop away
I agree! Job hopping can really boost your salary. I’ve noticed that too.
I stayed at a job for a year and it didn't get better. The job was great but the people I worked for made the environment hard to want to get up each morning and I dreaded Mondays. I recently left that position for a higher paying position and I left after a month because that situation was worse. Now im unemployed looking for the next position. My advise 1. Don't leave a job without another one in line. 2. Really interview your interviewers. I've had success moving to the next step in pay but I need to make better decisions concerning the environment I want to be in. Now I have an urgency to be hired but will take the financial hit to ensure my next place is better. Sometimes more money isn't worth the misery. It may be better to take a little less to ensure longevity.
It’s tough when the environment is draining. I’ve felt that way too. Your advice is spot on always have a backup.

I can totally relate to that! It's easy to get caught in the mindset of "just one more year," only to realize time has flown by. I’ve been in jobs longer than I planned, and while there can be value in stability, I've also seen friends who job hop and land better pay and opportunities. It really depends on the industry and what you’re looking for. Sometimes, a change can spark new growth and challenge, but it’s also important to weigh the benefits of loyalty. Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking post!
I completely agree! It’s surprising how quickly time passes. I’ve been in that situation too. Job hopping can definitely lead to better opportunities. It’s all about what you want. Change can bring growth, but loyalty has its perks too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
