I’ve spent my entire seven-year career practicing in a secondary market in Ohio, but my family needs to relocate to NYC area for personal reasons. I have extensive experience leading complex commercial transactions, but Manhattan recruiters keep treating me like a small-town lawyer who won't be able to handle more. I’ve already passed the NY bar, so credentials aren't the issue. How do I prove that I belong?

Will you be living in the city or a suburb? If you’re able to live and work outside the city, you might find that your background is more competitive there. (Slightly) better COL too. There are biglaw satellite offices in Princeton, for example, and many midlaw firms in the greater NYC metro area.

I give massive kudos to all the parents out there juggling work and home life. But it’s starting to feel like I pulled the short stick by not having a kid. Really struggling to pick up all of the slack from all of the colleagues that do have kids and feel like the expectation is that parents should turn off while the rest are working from 7am - 2am everyday to make up for it.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

Hi, been stuck in the contract analysis/review cycle. I have asked a few recruiters how to make a lateral move into in-house. They told me to focus on contract management, which I have been doing for the past year. Now that I have, are there any sites besides “jobscan” that I can use to make sure my resume fits the job descriptions? Does anybody know any recruiters that could help me, as well?
