I’ve spent years working toward a CS degree and honestly the current tech job market has me questioning everything. It feels like even being “above average” isn’t enough anymore,almost like you need to be top 1% just to land an entry role. I’ve even thought about switching to EE. For those in tech or engineering, are you seeing hiring pick back up, and have any of you pivoted fields because of the market?

Currently scheduling “on sites” for a S&O role in CA. My referrer said they can hire as L5 or L6. Would like to land in the L6 bucket as I’ve heard 5 --> 6 is one of the more challenging promotions.

I’m looking for info on what the real difference is in responsibilities (manager vs IC, cross functional vs focused, etc) so I can focus on checking the L6 boxes during my interviews.

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

I have just interviewed for a position closer to home and a base salary of 65k, but haven’t heard back from them in about 2 days (He said he would make a decision by yesterday and I’ve reached out).
I have to decide on the first offer by Thursday but I haven’t heard back from the second yet. Thoughts on next move?
