Do it. Things aren’t getting better in advertising, so I wouldn’t assume that what’s happening in our job market is the norm for every market. And if you don’t love it, jump!

8 years in? DEFINITELY. I wish I got out and went into finance and did real creative work on the side that only I would profit from. Not shareholders. GTFO.
AH okay why did this just motivate the hell out of me???
Get out. Run don’t walk. After 20 years and two layoffs that resulted in long term unemployment I wish I never went into advertising/marketing.
Literally this is my fear. I just want a stable job advertising is so unstable with constant layoffs and budget cuts resulting in losing clients.
Just do it.
With only 8 years in, you don't have a lot to lose. The industry has been steadily contracting going on 3 years now and doesn't show any signs of stopping. AI is only going to feed this trend.
What do you REALLY enjoy doing? Figure that out and how to align your lifestyle (location, money, commute, hours, vibe) and you’ll never “work” another day in your life.
As an intern though?! Is it a wildly different job? Could you try a lateral move to something else first?
Get out while you can, dude. Better now than years later. Worst case, you can always try and get back in.
What industry? If it’s even a little bit less grim than advertising I’d say go for it
If the new industry is an industry you can work in into your 60s, go.
