Wow. That hasn’t been my experience at all.
I started in Quality, then Operations and now I’m in Learning and Development.
I have had some great leaders.. I thought this was encouraged so people can learn all sides of the business.
You aren’t in consulting
That’s true.
Been there, best course of advise will be to job hop.
Not true at my company. You have to fight for it, but you can move…
Totally disagree; it often benefits leaders to lead or have experience in a variety of functions to be a more agile/versatile leader. Unless you require deep subject matter expertise - moving around (granted you don’t burn bridges) is needed.
Definitely not true in my experience either. I came to my current company as an enterprise Java software engineer and have since moved through many roles to the one I'm in now, working directly for our market's CTO and CDO as their Chief Cloud Architect.
That's relevant to the initial post in what way? Is the assumption that all of us who have posted similar comments here about this not being true cannot be part of consulting companies?
Feeling this.
Hey everyone who’s responded, let me be clear this was overheard at work. As in I heard someone else say this.
Not true at my firm
