Don’t beat yourself up. Ya gotsta go where the jobs are.

The best Work at every award show every year is in this category. Some of the best treats I know are banging on doors of healthcare and Pharma agencies to try to get in. If you’re there, and you’re not inspired by the healthcare work at All the shows this year and last year and the year before, you’re in the wrong field. I mean industry.
ACD, then you have 3 options.
1. Get on the Cannes-level projects. If your talent is there you can do it.
2. Get a job at a consumer agency with the work you value. If it’s all about talent, you shouldn’t have an issue finding a gig.
3. Stay in your current job and continue to complain on Fishbowl.
Either one of two things are true: One is that this shit is all random and none of us have any control. Or two is that it’s merit based and you’re simply not any good and you’ve been relegated to pharma.
Either way, get off your high horse.
Nobody working on creative here necessarily enjoys this. Gotta make money.
Yes. 👍🏼
The pay is no longer better than consumer advertising agencies. I have the same salary I had when working at a general market agency, while doing work I don’t resonate with.
Oh you must be VP, ACD
You didn’t read the small print, did you?
Very clearly at the bottom of page 36, in 4pt type it reads “once you are in pharma, you never get out of pharma”
Feel that.
Question...how is the pay? That much better than regular agency side?
It’s marginally better than consumer, but there are more roles available at higher paying levels.
I’ve been there. Stay until there’s stability in the market. It’s bad out there.
I hear you. But in all honesty, it really depends on the team you’re on. Most of the better healthcare campaigns are in the unbranded, disease awareness category. Once product is mentioned is when all that legal side effects copy has to flood in and everything gets watered down.
Who sponsors the ads for unbranded diseases?
Can you help some of us looking to make career change-ups? What about it don't you like? What's the biggest culture shock?
The 12 round whiplash thing happens in loads of industries not just Pharma. So maybe take comfort in the fact that it’s bad everywhere?
I’ve been pretty curious about trying to break into Pharma. I was laid off months ago and it seems like it’s one piece of the industry that’s hiring left and right. But if you don’t have exact Pharma experience, it seems like there’s no chance of breaking through. I have a ton of Biotech and science experience and was hoping that might count for something but it doesn’t.
Yes, this is exactly my experience as well. I’ve had fields in their application process that ask for what therapeutic areas you have experience in.
