If crime rate wasn't through the roof thanks to soft on crime DAs and sanctuary policies, they wouldn't be necessary. Shame on those mayors and governor's that have allowed their cities to fester with crime. Seriously, SHAME ON THEM. The national guards aren't here to harass anyone. Most of the time, they're just chilling.
Look up the definition of authoritarian and get back to me

I was in DC two weeks before the Guard deployed and was in DC the past two weeks, and it is night and day.
You may not like that the Guard was deployed but Washington DC looks much better and the stats are clear that it is much safer. There is outrage because Trump called them out but it wasn't long ago that Hochul in NY called out the guard to patrol the NYC subway because it reached a point where it was necessary.
The governor and elected representation from the state of Tennessee wants the guard to deploy to Memphis because it has been among the most dangerous cities in the country for decades and it will take a different approach to correct because clearly what Democratic leadership has been doing, isn't actually correcting the issue.
I was in DC and had some polite conversations with guardsmen when I was in Union Station. No one harassed me or bothered me and for the first time in years, I wasn't being harassed by drug addicted vagrants and didn't have to step over filth.
A1 is correct. M1 likely lives in Vienna or Arlington (or not in DC at all).
Posse comitatus (someone check my spelling) - I don’t much care if you *think* this is ok, it’s unconstitutional.
Also, the politics are showing on your sleeves… The cities with the highest crime rates in America are in the south and so far they have not been invaded by our own soldiers.
Doesn't change the fact that that's the only formal ruling on it. The default assumption unless and until an appeals court rules otherwise is that it was illegal.
I’m very sorry law and order is happening to you

Probably because there were national stories where someone was lit on fire in the subway and a good Samaritan was put on trial for subduing a violent drug addict who was allowed to roam free on the subways and threaten people.
NYC relies on a social contract that public transportation can be used which requires that it be safe. If politicians and law enforcement have failed in administration such that public transportation is no longer safe, then they have failed the social contract.
Hochul would have never been elected but she recognized this basic requirement and that the city priorities have failed. If you get Mandami and based on his stated politics, I expect NYC ends up regressing further.
Not particularly, hence all the protests. Doubt many of the guard themselves are overjoyed about it either. Not what they signed up for in the slightest.

patriots are in control and cleaning up the streets
The guard have been photographed picking up leaves, so that's one marginal improvement I guess, McK2.
Im good with it. Immediate return on tax dollars. Is it 100% efficient, ofncourse not, its the government its never 100%.
Is it producing needed results, yes. Crime down = good
And then they leave and things go back to normal like when the military wasn’t flooding the streets

While it has temporarily helped reduce crime and helped beautify the city, I'd rather the federal government just provide funds to cities to hire more law enforcement than to take Guardsmen from their regular jobs. Several recent articles have mentioned morale and recruiting becoming an issue with the National Guard since they've been mobilized.
Yes, we need them in every city until overall crime, gang violence and the hoods are subjugated.
NOPE

I grew up in conflicted part of India so we are used to armed military folks on the streets, curfews at night, asking for IDs and asking where you are coming from, where you are going, etc.
US is not used to it but if you grew up in countries with political unrest, it is common.
Not saying ok with it or not.
The crime is over stated, period! With that said, cities with an actual crime problem need to solve it without the military…This is not Russia!

I don’t know about Chicago. So won’t second guess you there.
As to troops? Yes, for awhile. Two reasons:
- Send a clear message to the thugs
- Send a clear message to the governor (so far in CA it has helped. Newsome is taking offense to Trump meddling in his state and he’s stating to take action against crime)
I’m sick of the gaslighting from people who have never even lived in the cities who are invalidating the severity of the crimes. I live in DC, (first Columbia Heights, now Navy Yard) and the amount of stuff I have seen since moving there would make your head spin! I literally have to take public transportation EVERY DAY. Prior to the national guard, there wasn’t a day that went by that I wasn’t verbally harassed and called crazy names while walking to and from the metro stations. Yeah I get normal catcalling, but sometimes the interactions went much further. I would actually consciously avoid some stations because they were more dangerous. The kids are extremely bad. It’s really sad to witness. And don’t get me wrong, I understand why. They keep getting pushed out due to gentrification and their parents literally aren’t parenting. But I need to be able to get around the city in peace and not fear being harassed. You can’t even make eye contact with the ungodly amount of unhinged people in metro stations. My first week in DC taking the metro, some guy screamed, “I’m going to blow this bxtch up!” while getting in the faces of several women and children waiting for the train. And nobody even flinched. There were even several Metro cops nearby as well who just watched, (rightfully so because they are scared for their lives and want to go home safely).
But all that to say, I HATE absolutely everything about the Trump administration. I think he is a terrible stain on democracy that will take this country decades to recover from. But this is one thing that was needed and seems to be working. Two things can be true, the major cities have severe homeless and mental health crises and need more support and housing for their displaced families due to the effects of gentrification, BUT the crime is also out of control and I’m happy to finally have space to breath while walking around the city. Stop gaslighting the people who live in these cities. The crime is bad, the kids are out of control, and we need it to STOP.
I’m fine with it. I want to feel safe and when you walked down the street at DC it is night and day difference. Very happy.
It didn’t feel any different. And th stats on how really effective it is won’t be felt until th NIBRS reports make it way to DOJ and Pew do analysis. Talked to a few guardsmen while I was waiting for my sister to come down from her office. They are simply there as a deterrent. Is it working? Doubtful. But perception is the only reality that matters. At this point it is more of a dog and pony show according to the ones I talked to. They are ok with it. It’s decent pay for what they are doing. They aren’t harassing anyone though. They said they are barely even spoken to. Except for some to say “thank you for your service” or “glad you are here.” It’s just a weird vibe since they can’t really do much except just stand there.
