Just had a Salary negotiation go terribly wrong.

Tell me about your last salary negotiation. What happened when you brought up money? Did you get what you asked for, or walk away wishing you'd handled it differently?

Last week at an office meeting the office manager, in front of everyone, without my knowledge beforehand, announced that I was the only person in the office eligible for a senior position. I was shocked and responded in that way. I have to apply for the position and after some thought I decided I didn’t want to do it. They aren’t offering an increase in base pay and giving me the responsibility of management without the title. Yesterday, I received a PIP is this retaliation?

Looking for guidance: Can a company require its employees to sign a confidentiality agreement prohibiting disclosure/discussion of their individual wages/salary information? Does this run afoul of the NLRA (specifically Section 7)?

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. Interviewing at a dream company, and right from the first interview the recruiter told me we are way off on salary expectations. This was a little bit expected, as the role is requiring a few years less experience than I have and also in a much cheaper market. They already told me the salary range during this first call, but wondering if they like me enough and I get an offer, how I might approach negotiating for more. I would be making much less than I do now, but it is a dream company.
