Just had a Salary negotiation go terribly wrong.

Tell me about your last salary negotiation. What happened when you brought up money? Did you get what you asked for, or walk away wishing you'd handled it differently?

Can you explain how it went?

It was my firs time doing it, so I was really scared. I had some bullet points written down because I didn't want to miss anything. The HR person I was working with was thankfully very kind and he gave me some tips for next time. He ended up getting it approved and I breathed a sigh of relief.

Worst was the HR recruiter made an exploding offer that ended when the call was finished. I asked him for 10k more and he said he would check and get back. An hour later and the offer was gone. Honestly, he did me a favor. , Nobody wants to work with people like that...

Wait what happened? I've never had a salary negotiation go "terribly wrong." I've been told that they couldn't' match my request before but I've always managed to get something out of these conversations. Can I ask for some more details?

Ditto share more details please

What happened? It seems silly to post that without telling us what happened.

Like the other people here, I want to know what happened! If you feel comfortable sharing. I've never had a salary negotiation go wrong, though I did walk away from one job because they wouldn't meet me closer to my desired salary. I wouldn't say it went wrong necessarily, our visions just didn't align.

What exactly went wrong? I've never had a negotiation go completely sideways. More often than not, I at least get a bit more money, if not exactly what I've asked for. I think I wound up with 5% more than what I was initially offered. Not my greatest negotiating success, but I was already happy with the offer, so the little extra was icing on the cake.

Last week at an office meeting the office manager, in front of everyone, without my knowledge beforehand, announced that I was the only person in the office eligible for a senior position. I was shocked and responded in that way. I have to apply for the position and after some thought I decided I didn’t want to do it. They aren’t offering an increase in base pay and giving me the responsibility of management without the title. Yesterday, I received a PIP is this retaliation?

Hi everyone! I’m a master’s student in Switzerland, and I’m currently abroad interning at Deloitte AKA working 14h a day for no pay 🙃 just to get a job back in Switzerland
I currently have a couple of “almost” job offers, and I’m going back soon and meeting the employers to talk about logistics including work permit.

Are there non-Europeans here that have gone through the work permit process in Switzerland that can answer a couple of questions?

I would really appreciate it.

Does anyone have suggestions for what a salary should be for a Digital Marketing Analyst | Paid Social & Performance Media? I have 1 year of experience, the job asks for 0-1 year of experience. I feel I over meet the qualifications in some areas and just meet them in others. The recruiter said 50k is the salary the company is offer. I know I can negotiate. Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

In your past experience, how accurate have you found the ranges for positions on Glassdoor?

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?

Interviewing at a dream company, and right from the first interview the recruiter told me we are way off on salary expectations. This was a little bit expected, as the role is requiring a few years less experience than I have and also in a much cheaper market. They already told me the salary range during this first call, but wondering if they like me enough and I get an offer, how I might approach negotiating for more. I would be making much less than I do now, but it is a dream company.
