Just learned that a rec opened on my team. I’d be the hiring manager and could definitely use the support but my agency is awful and I myself am desperately trying to get out. Not sure how I encourage someone to join this agency. Has anyone ever been in a similar position? If so, how did you handle it?

Trust me. One man’s trash is another man’s rent payment, grocery money, credit card payment, etc.

For sure. If it weren’t for rent & bills I would have quit a long time ago. But I am unsure how direct to be about work conditions.

You can be professionally forthright in the interview process with them and they should be able to read between the lines and/or decide for themselves if they want to join after hearing your input. E.g. hey there are times when work is heavy, or there's a lot on ambiguity, etc. I never outright lie but you definitely can be candid with them and they appreciate it. Also, in this economy, a lot of people are leaving their own toxic places or need a job badly

likesmart

Ummm have you ever done that as an interviewer? Because if you say that you risk them going back to the recruiter saying they don’t want the job because the interviewer mentioned x, y, and z. Not everyone who is interviewing needs a job, maybe they are currently at a place they like and are weighing their options. If you say that stuff it could put you in hot water, lays the grounds for you to be fired, or you having to explain why you said that to a prospect to your boss or hr.

Been in a similar place - I feel for you. I landed on saying it could be a “very hard account” and people seemed to pick up what I was putting down. Didn’t feel right to outright misrepresent the job so that felt like enough of a flag without totally self-sabotaging.

like

Yes that’s the balance I’m hoping to strike!

I interviewed at a place where it was obvious from the answers, it was a shitshow. I still accepted the offer, because it was a great opportunity at that time, and yeah, I read between the lines correctly, it was a shitshow.
Even when people are not open about the situation, you can tell from outside, there’s also that desperation feeling in the air.

like

Yeah I’m hoping the people I interview ask the right questions — what’s the culture? work/life balance? how are the clients? etc so I can try to seed in some of the experience without having to scream “SAVE YOURSELF — DONT COME HERE!”

In this job market I wouldn’t be too worried. So many people are looking for work. One thing I would avoid doing though is hiring someone who is employed at another agency.

Not everyone admits that they’re laid off if it’s been semi recent.

Feels like MAYBE you should consider jumping ship?

The person you will hire is feeling the exact same thing.

Top SDRs oftentimes don't sound like traditional salespeople when cold calling. They use a very casual voice tone.

Here are a few tips:

1. Avoid upward inflections at the end of sentences. This makes it sound like everything you ask is a question
2. Slow down and eliminate buzzwords. Speaking fast makes you sound nervous and less confident
3. Avoid reading from a script - internalize your message and put it into your own works so you sound like YOU!

Thoughts? What are your top tips?

I interviewed at Google and cleared all onsite interviews back in July. Then came the hiring freeze and my role was de-prioritized. Now I'm being called for another position which I applied through the same recruiter before for the same group but different role. My question is will Google reuse the positive feedback and will it help/add value to this new position?

Can someone explain how billable hours work? At a new agency and although I had to fill timesheets at my previous agencies, they were mainly used to ensure we weren’t over servicing a client/for setting the appropriate retainer for contract renewals. I asked ppl at my agency but haven’t gotten a proper explanation. I get the impression that billing to the agency admin code isn’t recommended, and my manager said he bills everything to client codes, but that doesn’t make sense to me .

It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are: get up and move even if you don’t finish or end up going on a walk. Pls take care of yourself❤️
