Last year my company had a harder financial cycle, and I remember feeling unsure whether it was even appropriate to bring up a raise. I didn’t want to seem out of touch, but I also didn’t want to miss my window to advocate for myself. Have you ever asked for a raise during a year when budgets were tight? How did you frame the conversation?

Yeah, why not? My personal finances are not related to the company and I don't need to feel bad about advocating for myself. They can always say no, but I'm always going to ask.

Love this perspective

In this situation more than any other you will want to come armed with the details of how you have earned a raise. What specific impact have you made that is deserving of a salary increase? Rising cost of living is not personal impact.

Thank you! Makes sense

You need to double down on the value you are bringing to the company during that trying time for them. It’s not a guarantee, but that is the only way you are going to have a hope.

Will do this. Thank you.

Agree with the other posts. Focus on merit.

Do not try justifying it based on inflation. You wouldn't want a pay cut if we have deflation.

Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).

Hi Guys,
I am from EY India (2 years ++)
What's the best way to approach my counselor for a relocation to another city so that the counselor/manager approves without any issue..
Obviously it won't happen overnight, I have to give my handover and that could take a month, I am fine with that.

Anything I should take care of before joining new location?
Please provide some tips..

Thanks in Advance!

What is a good salary for a director in NY?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

Hi all. I just received an offer for $130k and will be eligible for about 29,000 shares of stock options. The vesting schedule is 1 year and then quarterly thereafter.

Can someone explain what this means? I “will be eligible”. So, I have to buy the shares? Should I be asking at what price?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!
