Lateraled almost 2 years ago. Have averaged 80 billable hours a month the entire time. People tell me not to be concerned. I should be very concerned, right?

Sounds pretty luxurious tbh; you basically got a year off

@A8 hope your new firm is better. It's a super sucky situation and wish that guy had just taken it as a sign to lateral/quiet quit and enjoy the slowness but that's so much easier said than done when multiple people are giving you false hope

Yes. Are you seeking out work? Are others in your practice area busy?

Lol yes that’s insane. not just from a “will i lose my job” perspective but also your skills have to be behind your class year

It still applies. Market terms change, the law changes, etc.

For two whole review cycles?? What a dream…

Tbh you probably will, 2 years is a long time to be that slow so I would look to lateral and hopefully repeat..!

In a similar position and feeling anxious. Im averaging about 100 hours after a few months. People praise me for doing good work and not to worry so not sure what the deal is. Hoping it will ramp up soon.

like

I don’t know why you would wait 2 yrs to look

This.

...why would u not stay till ur actually pushed out? seems like the already would have if they were trigger happy. r u in a niche specialist area or something?

like

Same situation. Just got fired.

Yes, you should be concerned. The low hours have been going on long enough that there will be enough justification to just call you in to the office and do you like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas without any prior signaling. I think you are in a race against your firm’s PPP not keeping pace with whatever peer group your firm compares itself to.

Every top firms PPP is up 20%. Who cares. It’s big law. That’s what these firms to do.

lol. I read this as 2 months. It 2 years. Was so confused. Dude what are you doing? Get out of there.

Are any other paralegals struggling with billable hour requirements? I have 5 years of experience in corporate transactions, M&A, and real estate work, and have never had billable hour requirements. I'm in a new job now where I do and I'm nowhere near meeting them. I'm getting a lot more admin work than billable work, and it's stressing me out.

I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. That said getting to know people only remote has been kind of awkward at times (email only can be tough to decipher) although as a working mom the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Yesterday my main partner asked me to come in Thursday bc he will be there and set a time to meet. Is this good/bad?? kind of nervous!

Did your firm’s leadership send a message re the horrific shooting? Before I lateraled we always got emails from leadership, which IMO were very humanizing and appreciated. New firm leadership seems to just avoid — probably to not appear politically involved. Your thoughts on these types of current events and firm acknowledgment?

When should a stub start getting worried about not having much work and low billable hours?
I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
