Sometimes it’s a coping mechanism because, at times, you don’t have a choice but to work. I also feel like it’s a weird sense of inflated importance and not realizing that it’s not that serious. They are often the same people that can’t hold a conversation unless it’s about work. I blame capitalism, baby!
yep. same thing happened in law school. people love to complain/brag about how much they are working, often unnecessarily

Well sometimes it also puts perspective into why you’re maybe not as engaging or social as usual. That’s definitely the case for me. I’m usually very social and chatty. When I’ve had a rough work week or had to work super late, it’s pretty noticeable. People almost always ask if “I’m okay” simply because I’m not engaging as much as usual. Letting people know I worked late and am just tired seems like a normal response.
Idk I talk about it all the time but the moral of the story is always my misery. I’ve never said it to impress anyone. Never thought it might come off that way, interesting.
I think it’s more the people that post on here re how busy they are.

I’m so busy you wouldn’t even believe it. I’m probably busier than all of you, no big deal though.

Like the famous George Costanza bit in Seinfeld

Seems like two people have some fault in this interaction

But that is the only way I can deal with being busy...
Yeah how else will I get my work done??
I used to be this person and I agree with others who said it’s a coping mechanism. Doesn’t make it any less annoying if you’re on the reader’s end of it, but that’s some perspective on where it’s coming from.

I do it to senior coworkers so they know I’m really at capacity and stop giving me work

Yes clients keep telling us it’s okay and the doc can wait till next week but these lawyers keep insisting on pulling all nighters!
Whenever I say stuff like this its most definitely complaining (I never even thought before this post that anyone would interpret it as bragging tbh)
Exactly, OP.
What’s worse is when other lawyers enable it and oohh and ahh. If you’re at a firm where associates are impressed by an all nighter, you’re in the wrong firm.
This.
OP - how many hours are you going to bill this year? Just curious.

SO many hours you wouldn’t even believe me if I told you
