If he gets annoyed by you clarifying something that’s a bad associate end of story
*painfully obvious* to one is not the same to another. Do better
Look for another position asap. This never ends well and you will probably "fail" to meet his expectations anyway. Stay away from such people
He should clarify if you ask questions - annoyance is not a good look. How long have you been in the new role ?
That’s ok, you still need a few weeks - months before you are able to run with projects and ideas. That said, do look around and observe how other analysts are treated / given instructions- if your team is a sink or swim team, best to figure that out now and work accordingly (it isn’t right that an analyst be thrown in the deep end but belabouring that won’t help you - preparing for it by anticipating bad instructions will though )
If he doesn't understand the pleasant way, next time he goes off on you tell him the way it is and that you're not f-ing around but he needs to be clear and realistic. I did that before. It worked and also made me understand that if that is the only way my manager can be spoken to, it is time to leave.
Where did you lateral from / rank?
That sucks but rattle him by continuing to be pleasant and unphased until maybe he gets over some stupid “need” to break in the new person. Ask others for help. Build a network of better sources, both humans and resources on your firm’s intranet or elsewhere. Keep a notes document open (OneNote is great) and type like crazy when he rattles off instructions.
I don’t know who is right or wrong, but your desire to be “fed info” makes me sympathize with your associate. You do have to try and think about stuff.
