Depends on what you’re regretting. Sometimes bad feelings just mean you’re doing something that’s hard, not wrong. If you put a lot of thought into the decision, trust that.
I'm also lateraling and am going through similar stages of regret/cold feet, it does feel like this is part of the process though

Everyone has these and there are different stage ls just like when you move to a different city. Regret is just you mind being afraid and telling to stay put with what you’re familiar with. But trust your decision
The last two weeks at a firm are always the best two weeks. You stop getting new work, deadlines melt away, everyone is suddenly super nice to you. You’re only writing easy transition memos. You leave work early and take no work home. You’re taking long lunches and coffee breaks with colleagues to catch up. It’s the best.
Don’t let it cloud your judgement and forget the reason, the worst weeks, you decided to leave.
It’s probably just some fear of the unknown. The lateral hiring process takes time so this is not some rash decision you’re making - chances are you’ve thought it through so it’s not your gut.
This happened to me two years ago and I stayed at my firm because of the regret/fear. Fast forward and I just accepted a lateral offer. Similar feelings are creeping in despite me giving this years of thought. All this to say, it is definitely normal so if you have a good reason for wanting to jump then stay the course.
No, it was the opposite. I tried to change the things that made be unhappy but with little success. After four years at a firm, I knew what I was getting. I decided I either had to accept the firm for what it was (with the parts I didn’t like) or find somewhere new. I went the latter and am hopeful things change for the better.
