1. Marry someone who makes the same amount as you 2. Don’t buy stupid things 3. Retire

Me too.

Don’t have kids (they’re awesome but you aren’t retiring by 45 with them), ignore status symbol BS, invest in multiple income producing streams. Or…have kids, enjoy your life and retire later. But still be smart with your money. No one with a brain cares about your car, shoes, clothes, watch, house or any number of status symbols.

I have kids already lol so I guess I’m out.

Generational wealth.

I made it by 55. Does that count?

This is awesome, thank you for the detailed reply! I will start with a book 🤣

Work in house at late stage tech companies!

Marry someone with money or who will get a lot of it. No kids. Those are the easiest ways. Also possible to get there otherwise but it is a lot harder as the sole breadwinner and with kids.

Totally agree - hard to build wealth with kids or a partner who doesn’t make a good salary. Retirement at 45 not a problem with two big law salaries. You can have a very comfortable life on 3/4 of one big law salary and invest the rest.

Join the financial independence bowl. Costs down + smart investing = retire early.

Dumb luck.

Save 3m, invest in multifamily homes, should net you around 150-200k a year in passive income. Or buy market tracking ETFs and don't be greedy.

(1) two incomes (2) no kids (3) profit!

My husband and I (both 27) max out our Roth IRAs each year, have a complete emergency fund, and I’m able to start maxing my 401K this year (he contributes 10% to his 401K - it isn’t possible for him to max his based on his current pay). We contribute 18% extra towards principal on our mortgage each month. We now have about $20k of additional savings we want to figure out what to do with. What would you recommend to someone who is new to stocks/investments?

Real talk. My employer doesn’t offer 401K or any investment or tax-sheltered vehicles. That said—I have a side company I own but isn’t making income right now. Is it possible to invest in my own company, set up a 401K for myself there and get the 57K/year max contribution? Effectively, if I were to do this, the company would have me on payroll, contribute to 401K and ultimately take a loss.

Hi BCG 🐟, BCG’s retirement is just the PSFR paid once a year, correct? Not done as a contribution monthly. Just wondering bc i am about to start and looking to see how to set up my 401k. Also, if for example you leave before the PSFR is paid, you lose that money correct?

When does it become smart to switch to Roth investments? For 20 years I've gone with trad IRAs and 401(k)s; I wasn't a high earner and reasoned I could use the tax benefits and would (hopefully) end my working life with plenty of money in the bank to take the tax loss then. I'm now in early middle age making low six figures--is now the time or do I keep waiting? I know if I take required withdrawals on a trad while I'm still working I could be hit hard, but when I retire I expect to..retire.

When your salary was ~$100k per year, what percent did you allocate to traditional 401k or Roth (or after tax) 401k and why? Trying to evaluate my strategy for 2021 and would really appreciate the groups thoughts and rationales! FYI, already maxing out Roth IRA.

What should I do? My 401k went from gaining 38% year after year for the past 4 years, now I'm losing money rapidly. I lost over 11k twice this week already. I been down almost every day this week. Please offer some good advice. What should I do? Should I put everything into safer stocks or just sit tight and ride it out?

Understandably, there is a bias towards BTC and ETH. While the alt coins are more risky (Link, Cardano, XLM, Matic, loop, etc.) their price is much more reasonable. That’s why I don’t understand why people say “I will only buy BTC and ETH”. That seems short sighted when you can put at least 10% in alt coins and hit it big if they take off. It doesn’t have to be a large allocation yet people are hesitant. This comes from a new crypto investor. Not financial advice.
