I’ve been unemployed during November. Your unemployment gap in this economy is nothing special. You will simply be one of many and any employer with two brain cells to rub together would understand the economic and political context.
And if you’re super worried or insecure about it, just set up an llc and say you’re doing freelancing.
Having an unemployment gap in the government contracting industry is pretty normal. Remember contracts end and people become unemployed. Sometimes your contract will end and you will be unemployed for 6 to 12 months and during that time you'll be looking for work. You can explain to the recruiter that your contract ended and you spent that time looking for work? I've never had this be an issue. And I've been interviewed by so many companies. Nobody has really asked or cared...this is all part of the makeup of contracting work. And today with the layoffs happening in the government , I think it's pretty normal.
Contractors have gaps all the time. No one will bat an eye. Anyone who did would likely be using that as an excuse to turn people away if they have too many candidates. Trust me, if you have top-notch skills over those with lesser skills for the same role, you still would be considered as a top candidate with a 3 month gap...before and during this market.
It would be fine, especially in this climate. It isn’t exactly rare or anything…
