In today’s world the one things you are allowed to say is how are you doing, yes, no, I’ll get back to you, and specific project questions. Anything else and someone will be offended.

Just to clarify—this doesn’t have sexual origins, I think it meant in feudal times, opening the kimono show you don’t have a weapon... Still, it’s outdated and a little cringey today.
D2, totally agree, even understanding what the saying is about, it still calls to mind stereotypes of an a culture that is “Other” to us. That being said—most of the people on this thread are cringing because of the perceived sexual connotations haha
I’d probably err from using it in the US professional services environment... outside of that, people don’t generally take offense
I just heard it again today. Doesn’t seem cool, but is often used in US military environments.
