Legal Counsel at Apple. Do they ever hire in-house counsel that aren't ex big law? any personal examples of someone that has been hired from a mid-law shop? Alternatively, advise for the best means to get in-house somewhere like this when you have been doing commercial litigation (i.e., no in house experience yet)?

They hired my uncle Vinny. He didnt have any biglaw experience

Depends on the role.

This doesn't answer the original question, but I formerly worked at a company that was a supplier to Dell and to Compaq. The teams that handled those accounts used ONLY hardware from those companies. In other words, if you interview at Apple, you need to be fluent in Apple.

Outside of FAANG, what are good large CA-based tech companies that provide good pay, WLB, and culture? DD has great people and WLB, but pay is low and you’re not given the tools and resources to succeed + truly make an impact. Google and Apple are ideal but need backups. Like is Salesforce still good? Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Would love some advice / thoughts. I went straight from law school to a corporate legal department in house for an asset manager. They like “home grown” talent and I “be worked hard and risen relatively quickly (AGC in 9 years). I work hard and get a lot of complicated deals done (structured products and private funds). I can’t shake certain people (in compliance department mainly) thinking I don’t have enough experience to do what I do because I didn’t come from a law firm. Any advice?

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts. I say “are you sure this term is ok?” And often get “no.” They’re surprised because they never read them. Checking the temp to see what others experience, what might be normal. I feel contract training in my clients’ future...

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?
