I read about a strategy that is new to me, but makes a lot of sense, and we probably do it instinctively to some extent anyway. It would be especially useful in secondary classrooms where textbooks are a little bit more prevalent. I took a picture of the page from the book, to help: Teach Reading in Reverse.
Close Reading is an exceptional strategy to use in secondary schools, as well. I use this strategy with my elementary ELs and I used it with my 5th and 6th graders when I was a classroom teacher.
