The Happy Lawyer was really good. I am starting as a first year associate during a terrible time so I feel like I get less say about my career right now but I do feel like it would be extremely helpful to Others. https://www.amazon.ca/Happy-Lawyer-Making-Good-Life/dp/0195392329

Code of Capital: How Law Creates Wealth and Inequality.

Still reading it. Hasn’t helped me so much but really has really helped break down some previous ideas I’ve had while studying law: that it is fundamentally a system of picking or prioritizing certain parties/ideas/things over others, and the massive role it plays in guiding / determining the actions of the “invisible hand”. Really recommended.

Reading the Happiness Advantage how a positive brain fuels success in work and life by Shawn Achor. Very good read with lots of scientific research to back up the content.

Does anyone enter a “f*ck up” spiral and how do you get out? Like when you miss a nit or even larger typo in a brief or miss an issue in a sub/cite and someone calls you out in it, and then you doubt every proof you do, get anxious about f*cking up, and inevitably f*ck up again. Trying to decide if I’m burnt out after three crazy months or if I just suck at this job and should hang it up if I can’t get it back together soon. I don’t trust myself anymore.

I’ve made it 5+ years in a NY M&A practice and have consistent exceeding expectations reviews. I’ve had a few mental breakdowns because of work during this time, but thankfully made it through. I’ve been in a near constant depressive/anxious state for family reasons for the last year and half, and am soon having my first kid. I’m scared shitless that I’ll spiral out of control both at work and at home if something doesn’t change soon. Any suggestions on how to keep this job and keep it together?

Has anyone seen Omega’s new Seamaster? Thoughts? I mean the only thing that’s stopped me from going 20,000 ft underwater is the right watch…unfortunately at 45.5mm in diameter and 56mm lug to lug, it’s too big for my small wrists. Oh well, guess I won’t be going underwater. Just kidding haha - I think it’s cool and I do like that they ditched the HEV

Hadn’t noticed this sub before, and most of the threads are old so thought I’d ask a follow up - how has everyone been handling parenting with public accounting? I’ve got a toddler and my wife is an accountant (industry), and we only have a few immediate family in the country- but they have health concerns. Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

After being broken up now for 14 months - I think I still love my ex. We were together 6 years, and never fought. I thought I would spend the rest of my life with him. I don’t know why I can’t move on. It’s my birthday weekend and I have plans all weekend, but can’t stop thinking about this. I’ve been out with lots of great guys, but I keep holding on that maybe… one day we will be together again. Then my ex texted me today to let me know he and his new fiancé are moving to (cont. below)…
