Top 3%. Anytime I see things like this or average savings per age, I’m frankly stunned at how screwed the majority of the US seems to be financially more so than I am focused on where I sit. I know I’m fortunate and make a really good salary.

98th, higher than I thought

Having some knowledge of compensation from previously working in HR, salary ranges are specific to industries and geography. This tool is very cool and has a strong geographic component. However it’s potentially misleading as there is no way certain types of industries can compete e.g., public sector.

For example, when I worked in the federal judiciary for 6 years, it was clear that people chose government service because of their ideals. (Of course often judges had been Partners at their firms prior and were set financially.)

It’s good to be aware of overall salary trends like this, but also that COLA has a real fiscal impact and doing what you love should not be underestimated.

I'll go first - my current year comp is just under the top 1% threshold for 2022 and I'm wondering if I'll be able to squeak in there this year/sometime soon or if inflation and other factors are going to keep me boxed out for good

98th %ile

It's official, I'm poor AF.

-5 percentile 🤣🤣🤣🤣

98

It is dated 2021 feeling good to be top 3% but not sure it is current though!

I'm sure it's close enough

97 percentile.. that is surprising

81st percentile

What’s the general guidance on the order to maximize retirement contributions for tax benefits for an normal individual and for a self employed/small business owner before moving to taxable accounts or alternate vehicles like cash value life policies?
I’ve seen for individual: match trad 401k->match roth 401k->max roth IRA->max trad IRA->max trad 401k->max roth 401k->max HSA
For self employed: max SEP IRA/solo 401k->max roth IRA->max trad IRA->max HSA

Of course situations differ but in general?

Any particular segment of sales good for ex-finance? Johnson & Johnson Hi any job offering in Johnson & Johnson Abbott

My boss assigns projects with unclear expectations and provides no guidance on how to achieve them.

I've asked for help, and, to avoid a long post, she expects me to figure it out. Perhaps you go through this too, but when I don't have a clear guide on completing big projects, it paralyzes me because I don't know where to start. On top of that, I have anxiety, so "it has to be perfect".

How do you approach projects when your boss plays the "guess what's in my head" game?

Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?

Last week I had to explain to my child what “politics” (as in office politics) is. My child is going to a new high school and wants to play volleyball. There was a 3 day open “tryout” for incoming freshman for 2 teams. After the first day, she noticed that
1) there were obvious favorites (coaches are not even hiding that fact);
2) some can’t even play and got on the team,
3) some that can obviously play but did not get on the team;
4) decision were obviously made before the first day was over.
