Get a room with two queen beds and just give one to toddler. That worked best for us
That age/size is tough.
I’d say, upgrade out of the crib at home ASAP, if you haven’t already done so. Once they’re used to that, it’s much easier to get them to sleep in a cot or pullout couch in a hotel

Thanks so much, all!
I think the inflatable beds make the most sense for our needs, and we will just have to be okay with the fact that he will march out and turn all of the lights on at 6 am when we travel 😵💫😩😂 practically, I think this also means we need to keep him in our room because I can’t toddler-proof everywhere we travel (including my MIL’s home) to trust him being awake without oversight that early 🤦🏽♀️.
Toddler roll up mat? Or my sister in law travels with inflatable bed bumpers you can put under the bottom sheet
At 2.5, nothing. They slept in the bed
Our 99% height toddler was usually more than fine curling up in pack and plays until he was 3/3.5?
Hotels are a wildcard though, sometimes the easiest option is just cosleeping even if it’s not your usual practice.

How?! My son’s legs are bent which isn’t very comfortable or healthy for his hips. He also keeps waking up.
I’m thinking of like Italy, where we travel to often, where we just get these tiny European beds and 1 adult doesn’t fit, let alone 2 and a kid.

He woke up screaming so we ended up asking for a rollaway cot and putting the mattress on the floor with furniture all around to act as a gate 😅
He’s way too young to have that high up in a regular bed, he would fall off within hours if not less. We’ll have to figure something out.
There are travel bed borders on Amazon. Not the cot but actual border.
The Stokke JetKids CloudSleeper. Pricey, but should resale when you're done. Find a retailer that will allow a discount or buy it used.
This thing comes with a built-in manual pump and the mattress cover doubles as a flat sheet. It packs down to be really really small.

Every other commenter is wildin’- I have had a 95th+ percentiler for height and the Hiccapop inflatable bed has been the move. He is fine on it at 48 in+ despite being a picky sleeper.
This is what I would suggest. Our toddler still prefers the Guava Lotus over this inflatable bed though
When traveling with my son after he was no longer a baby, we just slept next to each other on the bed. If one side of the bed was close to the wall, that’s where he would sleep, eliminating any risk of him falling. I would never bring a pack and play on a flight.
Drag a mattress to the floor if toddler is sleeping alone. Otherwise have toddler sleep with one parent and other parent gets the other bed. Switch off nights. I wouldn’t buy a special travel bed at this point. Maybe get inflatable bed bumpers for travel if you’re worried.
An inflatable kids travel bed. My toddler loves his (can’t remember which brand we have as it’s packed away but it’s similar to the inflatables on here): https://www.travelandleisure.com/best-toddler-travel-beds-7971248
