I went through the same experience. It was a 2 month process, 5 rounds of interviews, and I flew out of state for the final panel interview. About an hour before the fourth round my 15 yo dog passed away and I was completely devastated but I pushed through and apparently I did well enough to get to the final round. I felt like I did really well in the panel and immediately after, the recruiter asked me when my planned vacation dates were. That made me think they were planning my training around those dates. I didn’t hear anything for 2 weeks and then was told that I was a very close second but the other candidate was chosen. The recruiter waited for the offer acceptance from the other candidate before letting me know in case that offer fell through. I later learned that the other candidate was preferred by the VP from the beginning anyway. I mourned a job I never had on top of mourning the death of my furry best friend.
I felt your pain. Thank you for sharing/venting your story. Hang in there.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your furry friend. I can’t imagine the pressure you were under while still performing for an interview. That shows your strength and determination!
Hey gents, I’ve been following the conversations here for a while and never really jumped in, but I’m going through the same thing many of you are.
I’ve been out of work since February, and I’ll be honest—it’s been tough. I recently went through seven interviews with one company and was pretty much led to believe the job was mine, only to find out they decided to fill it internally. That one stung.
What I’ve learned is it’s okay to be disappointed for a little while. Feel sorry for yourself for half a day if you need to, then get right back on the horse and keep moving forward. I’ve got years of logistics and operations leadership experience, and even with that, the job market has been a challenge.
The way I see it, all we can do is keep pushing, keep applying, keep networking, and keep believing the right opportunity is out there. One “no” just means we’re one step closer to the right “yes.”
Wishing all of you the best in your searches. Stay positive, stay persistent, and don’t give up. We’ve got this. 💪🇺🇸
That's a great way to look at it!
Gonna keep that mindset moving forward 👏🏻

Ugh. Really sorry to read this. Just feel the pain and let the emotions flow for 48 hours. It’s totally reasonable to be down and out right now.
Then you have to find a way to get back up and try again. Try to see if there is anything you learned during this process that will help you going forward.

OP,
I totally get it. The research, the prep time, the rehearsing, the STRESS.
I’m so angry on your behalf!!! If I understand things correctly, you paid for the ticket to go see them. Shame on them! Shame! Never. Again. If a company can’t pony up the money for a ticket and hotel then cut them loose. It’s truly terrible what they did to you.
Damn! Same thing happened to me. Had interviewed for an A/V job. Basically just setting up for meetings and special events. Had a great interview and they decided to go in house. Felt like I wasted my time. It happens
Literally the worst feeling ever. Especially when so many of us are investing time, energy, and other resources that we are running low on! But it’s ok. The storm doesn’t last always.
This is so relatable. It’s so hard out there and the rejections are so draining. :( Let yourself sit with the disappointment then just keep on keeping on. < my advice to myself on the daily. Maybe that door closed because an even better one is opening? Fingers crossed!
Yes! We have to keep going. That’s the only way we will succeed.
I feel ya. I was hired with this new company...the position I am currently in is basically entry level...so, I have been applying for roles within the company... that are more closely related to the roles I have over a decade of experience in. I keep getting interviews, But then get the "email" hard thing is, I see who they hire...and they are all freshly out of college with no experience.
I feel like I have secured my role as the front office manager, because everyone tells me im the best we have had...but I am bored in this role and it doesn't pay anywhere near what I need.
So frustrated.
Hang in there! Your lucky you already have your foot in the door by working there. Who knows, maybe in a few weeks, the person they hired won't work out and they call you in.
That is awful and I feel your pain most definitely. I think that when you travel a long distance, say 100 plus miles, to interview for a job, a fact that many people cannot necessarily afford to do but are willing to take the chance, that employers be required to reimburse you for your proven travel expenses. Otherwise they can Zoom the interviews.
Best of luck to you, and DON'T give up!
Wow so sorry to hear this that’s terrible rejection is Gods protection praying your next opportunity comes soon and is beyond what you could ever think or imagine.
Imagine how many NOs you ll have to get to get u close to that one biggest YES, wouldn t you be happier to get them faster ?
That’s the mindset that’s keeping me going! My yes is on the way and it will be far more than what I was asking for. Thank you for the reminder!
Condolences on your furbaby
No v
Yeah know the feeling. It’s like you like the job you know you need to do and you know you can fit in easily and bam it’s over
Prayers and understanding 🩷
Hang in there..you every think of starting your own business people have so many skills they give away.
Honestly I haven’t. I’ve seen what it takes to run a business and I KNOW that’s not what I want. I’d be happy to support a business though. Especially a startup.
So very sorry brother keep pushing
