Yep. And premium status isn’t that much sweeter, in US properties. Breakfast options and lounges are meh - specifically those powdered scrambled eggs. If the price isnt much, i now stay at Hyatt properties, or highly rated boutique hotels.
Those powdered eggs are the worst!
I don't really disagree, but if you consider that points are awarded based on spend, when prices go up so do your point earnings. In a way it makes sense that awards now cost more points.
The downside is that points you hold in your account get devalued.
Sure, but similar to inflation vs wages, the rate of outbound points is going up faster than the earning rate of inbound points. 60k —> 120k to book higher categories and I haven’t been paying 2x the nightly rate from a few years ago. And it’s not just the luxury collection ones: I dropped 50k per night for a courtyard Marriott for a wedding recently.
I mean in 2018 the highest of the high was capped at 60k… now some of those places are 120k
This is a sad but unequivocally true trend.
Don’t forget people…Inflation is coming for your points as well!
That's why I always try to use them as fast as possible. No reason to accumulate them due to depreciation
