Mid-level here. Have a junior on my team who is nice and hardworking, but uses me as their go-to for every single question they have, often for workstreams I'm not involved in at all, and this is happening more and more frequently. I'm extremely busy myself, but I feel bad because I remember being a junior and having no one to rely on. Suggestions for how to set reasonable boundaries?

Welcome to being a good mid-level. For when you’re truly slammed, you’re going to need to start getting good at giving tactful, respectful one-line answers and answers along the lines of “ask whoever is supervising you on this deal” or “ask a 2nd year who recently did a similar deal for this/a similar client” followed by “if you’re still stuck after that, I’m free to chat later this week at [x] time”

like

Respond only when you’re able to if it’s done via teams or email. If in person, let the person know you’re happy to help but it would be best to set up a quick 5-10 minute meeting at the or beginning/end of the day

like

Ask them to call you with questions or ask in person rather than using the chat. IME this makes them actually think to find the answer. Otherwise they fire every single thing off in the chat

Anyone here know of a wholesaler that supplies bottles like this? I've checked Alibaba, Thomasnet, and various other sites, but not much luck. I can't currently fulfill anything above 500 bottles and most suppliers I've come across have a minimum of 1000 or more. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

Completely and totally miserable at my firm and just need a space to vent because my friends are tired of hearing about it. I wish the worst part about it was the amount of work, rather than the completely toxic culture, lack of appreciation, arbitrary and back/breaking deadlines, lack of mentorship/feedback/training, and the fact that the associates act like they don’t even know each other. I cry every day and constantly am made to feel stupid for not understanding the highly technical (cont.)

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. I’ve worked twice as hard and feel like I’ve barely even gotten half as much. It’s discouraging sometimes especially because I worked so hard with pretty much no guidance (first gen, poc, low-income) to get into college and do well and then get into a t30 law school

I understand this might sound a little snobby but I'm not trying for it to come off that way. I've been around impressive people throughout my adult life. T-14 and big law have placed me in the company of some really accomplished individuals. It likely skewed the bar in terms of what I find as impressive.

My girlfriend's sister works at a Fortune 500 company and views herself as very accomplished. She's not a good person. I also don't find her impressive so I don't particularly try

I can’t stand people that brag about how busy they are or how late they stayed up doing X. They may think they’re just complaining, but the sanctimonious tone is unbearable. I promise you, no one is impressed. You are the problem with this industry.
