Interview anyway. Maybe they can make an adjustment if they love you. This is their shift/mistake — and you don’t know yet what went into the change or how hard/fast of a rule it is.

Never turn down an interview for something you want.

Interview and ask. That change might just be a way to say they are open to people on either coast/timezone.
I think it’s always a good idea to interview, especially with leaders in a group or team you have a high interest in. As long as you have been transparent with everyone along the way, the changing of the requirements doesn’t fall on you. Also, there might be a situation where it was decided that this specific role needs to have an office presence, but a future role (on this team or another team) might pop up later that doesn’t require that. Make the best impression you can and let the people that be sort out how to make it work.
I interviewed for a role (admittedly at a non FAANG company), and they hired someone else who they thought was a better fit because of one specific skill that the other candidate had but I didn’t. Fast forward a few months and they realized that the candidate wasn’t a good fit, and I got a phone call suggesting that they overestimated how important that skill was, and wanted to see if I was still interested. I was, and I ended up working there for 2.5 years. Just giving an example of putting your best foot forward and letting the pieces fall into place even if it’s not immediately…
Always say yes to an interview
