Most people agree that the best leaders have certain types of qualities. They're good communicators, they good at motivating, etc. I have had a few leaders I've tried to emulate so far in my career. I like to cherry pick their best attributes and try to emulate them. What's an attribute from a leader you're trying to emulate?

My favorite leader always trusted me to get my job done. They never expected me to constantly follow up with them and keep them up-to-date on every single thing I did. They just let me do my job and offered support if I needed it.

A manager that doesn't micro-manage. The BEST

My leader always gets in the trenches with us. Like she really works alongside us instead of over us if that makes sense. I have always respected her more for that.

Leading by example - it has such a good impact. I need to do more of that.

My manager is incredibly patient and never treats you like you’re stupidly when you ask questions. This is definitely something I’d like to emulate

That's awesome. My manager struggles to pay attention when I'm talking. It's bad

I love someone who is a servant leader. Right there helping the team, trying to see everyone succeed, putting others before themselves. If I am ever a leader, that is how I will be. I’ve had way too many bad ones and I know what it’s like to be at the bottom.

Hi fishes,

This annual appraisal I have got a good % of appraisal increment on my salary but I was not promoted to a senior developer (although I have been mentoring a junior dev in my team and been part of building the project by implementing new technologies and tweaks) and my total YoE is 3.5+ years. What could be the reasons? What should I do now?

Thanks in advance!!

I have been in client facing wealth management as an advisor for 10 years. I haven’t built a book of business because I’ve worked for mostly discount brokers (Merrill edge, TDA, Etrade). I want to know how to transition to a non client facing role in wealth management or another financial role. I am series 7 and series 66 licensed. Any thoughts?

I need help figuring out if I’m being underpaid. I’m working in real estate private equity and I focus on fund models and property valuations. I’m currently at base $80k and 20% bonus. I feel like I should be compensated better but the company says that’s what they think I’m worth. Any help or insights would be great!

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

Getting paid 85k base with 40k in bonus plus about 35k~ in OT.

Money isn’t everything but in my late 20s it feels like the only thing important right now.

WLB is next to zero as 60hr weeks are the minimum as of late. Management feels like they are trying to push a few of us out. Was told not to expect much come year end for comp. Any suggestions on finding a new role/pay expectations?

Is it the case here?
